CEREC® Same Day Dentistry in Meridian, ID
CEREC same day dentistry allows patients to restore damaged teeth with custom ceramic crowns, inlays, and onlays in fewer visits. At Legacy Smiles Family Dental in Meridian, Idaho, Dr. Daxton Pulham and Dr. John McMurray use modern dental technology to help make restorative care more precise, efficient, and comfortable.
For patients with a cracked tooth, large cavity, worn restoration, or tooth that needs protection after root canal therapy, CEREC technology may make it possible to receive a custom restoration in a single appointment without a temporary crown.
What Is CEREC Same Day Dentistry?
CEREC is a chairside CAD/CAM dental system that uses digital scanning, design software, and in-office milling to create custom ceramic restorations. Instead of taking traditional impressions and sending them to an outside lab, your dentist can scan the tooth, design the restoration, and create it right in the office.
CEREC same day dentistry may be used for dental crowns, inlays, and onlays. These restorations are designed to restore tooth strength, protect damaged structure, and blend naturally with your smile.
Benefits of CEREC Same Day Crowns
- Complete many crown appointments in a single visit
- Avoid temporary crowns in many cases
- Use digital impressions instead of traditional impression material
- Restore damaged teeth with strong, tooth-colored ceramic
- Support a comfortable bite with precise digital design
- Reduce the need for multiple appointments and repeat numbing
How CEREC Works
Your visit begins with an exam to determine whether a same day crown, inlay, or onlay is the right option. If CEREC is recommended, the tooth is prepared and a digital scan is taken to create a detailed 3D model of your smile.
Your dentist then designs the restoration digitally, making adjustments for shape, fit, and bite. The restoration is milled from a ceramic block in the office, checked for fit and comfort, and bonded securely to the tooth before you leave.
When CEREC May Be Recommended
CEREC same day dentistry may be recommended when a tooth needs more protection than a filling can provide. This may include teeth with large cavities, cracked or weakened areas, worn enamel, failing older restorations, or teeth that have had root canal therapy.
Not every tooth is ideal for CEREC. Some cases may still require a traditional lab-made crown depending on the tooth condition, bite forces, esthetic goals, or complexity of treatment. Our team will explain your options clearly so you can make an informed decision.
CEREC vs. Traditional Crowns
Both CEREC crowns and traditional lab-made crowns can restore strength, function, and appearance. Traditional crowns are made by an outside dental lab and usually require a temporary crown while the final restoration is being created.
CEREC crowns are designed and milled in the office, which can make treatment faster and more convenient. The best option depends on your tooth, bite, smile goals, and long-term oral health needs.
Your CEREC Experience
Most CEREC appointments are designed to be efficient and comfortable. After the restoration is bonded, your dentist will check your bite and polish the restoration for a smooth, natural feel. Mild sensitivity can occur for a few days as the tooth settles.
To protect your new restoration, brush and floss daily, keep routine dental visits, and avoid chewing very hard objects. If you clench or grind your teeth, a nightguard may be recommended to help protect your crown and surrounding teeth.
